“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”George Benard Shaw, Man and Superman

Hi! I am James Richardson. As you have found yourself reading this page, I suspect you are interested in learning what this site is about, or possibly who I am. I will get to the former shortly; as far as the latter, I'm still sorting that out. Who I am evolves over time as I experience more things. I have sorted out that I am an INTP according to the MBTI system.

Now that you know who I am, or lest my name and my MBTI personalliy type (neither of which is really who I am), let's talk about what this site is about. This site is where I talk, err, write about things that interest me, that I care to share with the unsuspecting world. So then, what interests me? Well, for starters, I'm interested in non Euclidean Topological spaces. You won't find much here on that subject as I have insufficient knowledge to think coherently, much less write about it.

I also have an interest in software engineering, particularly around functional and declarative languages. Probably most of my writing around this subject will be in my technical notebook. Also there will be writing about GNU/Linux, system administration, DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering, SRE.

Other things that may appear here will be stories around things in my world.

So now, Dear Reader, you may be asking why a blog? Primarily, I want to become a better writer, and perhaps write a book at some point. I find that writing things down, forces me into a better (or at least a more structured) understanding of the particular subject. A blog is the medium through which I choose to do so.

I know, you're asking, "James, what makes you qualified to write about and publish these things to the world"? The answer is, of course, that I'm not qualified to do this, but that is no reason for me not to do such. By day, I am a Unix and GNU/Linux infrastructure engineer, software engineer, and a technical lead for a SRE team. I have a B.S. degree in Physics and have an interest in Pure Math and Philosophy.

Now that you have found my site, I sincerely hope you find something of interest in these pages. My contact page contains various ways to reach me, should the desire arise.

Welcome!
